A draft tenancy agreement is under discussion between the Methodist Church Commissioners and Shebbear Allotments Steering Group. Fingers crossed.

Who we are

Several years ago the Shebbear Methodist Circuit was bequeathed a plot of land on the edge of Shebbear. One of the ideas for how to use the land was the provision of allotments, something of obvious value to the parish following 12 enquiries to the parish council.

HogCO visited the site and advised on its suitability and helped arrange a community meeting to assess community support for the idea. Following this meeting, several individuals decided to form an association and HogCO developed a proposal to the church to lease the land. The association held another public meeting on 16th June this year (2011) to discuss the plans and allow people the opportunity to apply for a plot and join the association.

We aim to:

• Grow vegetables and soft fruit for ourselves and our families
• Work together to create a community resource for the future
• Invite all community members, of all ages, abilities, backgrounds, faiths and ideas to become members
• To support the ongoing work to improve the woodland and wildlife on nearby land as a later priority
