Who we are

Ilfracombe Junior School has an active sustainability programme and we have already installed solar photovoltaic panels and solar hot water on our roof. We also have a vegetable garden that the garden club work in.

We have been asked by Devon County Council to organise the planting of edible trees and plants in Oxford Park, around the soon to be installed fitness equipment. HogCO has been helping us by talking to the children about site design and soil management. We hope to plant some trees in March 2011.

We aim to enable the children to:

• research suitable varieties of fruiting plants, bushes and trees for their town

•  plan, design and budget for the garden

•  plant the chosen plants

• harvest and maintain the site.
