Welcome to Highland Zen Group

The Highland Zen Group is a group of lay Buddhist  trainees living in and around Inverness. We meet monthly in Inverness to practice Serene Reflection Meditation (also known as 'zazen') which is the central meditation practice in Soto Zen Buddhism.

Highland Zen Group is affiliated to the Order of Buddhist Contemplatives, an international monastic Order practicing in the Soto Zen tradition of Buddhism. Our group maintains close connections with the OBC monks at Throssel Hole Buddhist Abbey in Northumberland and at Portobello Buddhist Priory near Edinburgh.

Our purpose is to maintain a strong foundation of support and friendship for all lay OBC trainees situated throughout the Highlands and Islands, and also to provide instruction for people with no previous experience who may be interested in learning about the practice of Serene Reflection Meditation and the Soto Zen tradition.

If you would like to make contact with the Highland Zen Group, then please e-mail us using the  'CONTACT US'  page. You can also email or phone the Guest Department at Throssel  Hole Buddhist  Abbey (see  'LINKS' page)  who are happy to pass on our contact details.
