The Travelling Scholars

In association with the Scottish Government and the British Association for the Advancement of Science

One of the strengths of the Highlands is the range of communities scattered all around. So we've formed The Travelling Scholars to carry ideas through the length and breadth of the area.

The Travelling Scholars set off for communities near and far, to visit the schools during the day and speak to the whole community in the evening. They carry their own equipment and work closely with local community organisations, who host the events, to select a topic of local interest.

It may be on practical ways to build an eco-home within a budget. Or on new applications of laser technology to medicine. Or on the misty nebulae in the pitch-dark skies above and the latest insights into their origin.

The journeys of The Travelling Scholars have been made possible by the BA last year and this year, and also the Scottish Government's Science and Society programme this time round.

If you would like your community to receive a visit in a future Festival, just let us know we're always looking for interesting new places to travel to.

In the meantime: From Achilitbuie to Applecross, from Cromarty to Kingussie The Travelling Scholars are on the move!
