Highland Rainbow Folk is an independent group of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender volunteers, working to raise awareness of issues facing older LGBT people in the North of Scotland.

We are a working group and give presentations to health and social care staff, and to older people’s groups.  We are also delighted to make our presentations available to other interested parties.

A storytelling model is used to raise awareness and understanding of the discrimination older LGBT people may have experienced. Discrimination can make accessing services particularly difficult and may lower expectations of receiving the same consideration as others in health and social care settings.

All our storytellers are over the age of fifty, although we do have younger LGBT volunteers who support the work of the group in other ways.

Our brochure “Am I Sure?” was produced by the group for use by healthcare professionals.  Further resources are being prepared.

We meet monthly in Inverness and give a warm welcome to new volunteers. For more information please contact:
