BATTLE OF LITTLEFERRY 1746

We have recently put together a group to commemorate the Battle of Littleferry which took place on the eve of Culloden in 1746.

The aim of the project is to set up a memorial stone commemorating the battle and those who fell from both sides; located along the Ferry Road and to be unveiled in 2022. The general plan has 3 stages:

1. Deciding location, gaining permissions; drafting a history and battlefield guide booklet; to be completed before 1 January, 2022 - COMPLETED.

2. Ground preparation, erecting and engraving the stone on site - COMPLETED; printing the “history and battlefield guide booklet and establishing the trail on the ground; to be completed between January-April, 2022 - WITH THE PRINTER, and

3. The ceremony itself, with any available descendants in attendance at the dedication on 15 April 2022 when the book will be available for sale.

Follow on plans now include:

1. Possibly planting of trees (a copse?) in memory of those who fell and,

2. Creating a “Battlefield Visitors’ Trail” to include social history - COMPLETED (included with the Book).

Please check the Golspie Heritage Society Facebook page for more information or email battleoflittleferry@gmail.com if you have information you would like to share.

MEMORIES PROJECTS

We have begun a series of Memories Projects, in an attempt to record some of the memories of days gone by, the first of which is:

Deliveries/Collections to/from your Door

We would like to find out about those many characters that called at our doors on a regular basis, ie. Do you remember: Jimmy Forbes, Butcher, George (Wattery) Sutherland, Donny (Sloan) Sutherland, Onion Johnny, Ram, Willak Macdonald, your milkman, fish man, butcher, coalman, insurance man, rent man, meter man, message boys or anyone else that we have not mentioned. Please include any stories about these people, what they sold or did and perhaps how long ago you remember them from.  If you would like to share any memories you have, please contact us here:

MILLENNIUM PROJECT:

To celebrate the millennium and to add to the collection of materials pertaining to the history of our village, a photographic record was produced of all of the houses in the village in the year 2000.  These records are now contained in two beautiful binders where anyone living in the village in 2000 can add their comments along side the photograph of the place where they lived.

If you have not yet recorded your comments and would like to, please contact us through the "CONTACT US" page.  Thank you.
