Bonnyton golf course at Eaglesham was pretty good on Sunday 5th Dec. The fairways are north facing and sheltered by trees, so it should last well. There is a small layby on a minor road at grid NS548523, west of the Clubhouse. The Orry park in the middle of Eaglesham is also skiable, but busy with sledgers, walkers and dogs. The fields between Kilmarnock and Eaglesham moor have been skiable for the last few days. We tried the Carsphairn area of Galloway yesterday, but the snow cover was too thin, just deposits on North East facing slopes. We went gully climbing instead. Here and now in Ayrshire, at 100 m AMSL, there is a mild thaw in progress. The outside air temperature is 4C, so the snow pack above 450m should still be OK.   David Nichol
