Questions, questions

Unanswered questions!

When a cherished building like the Empire Neath is being demolished with no good-will from residents and by a planning department hell bent on building flats in the town centre, it is understandable why the media is taking interest.   However, many think that more investigative reporting is called for.   There are many questions that remain unanswered and here is an opportunity for some reporter to make a splash in the Sunday newspapers.   Investigative reporting is an art and often makes a name for those concerned.

  • Where did Coastal Housing have the grant from towards demolishing the building - and how much was it?
  • Did local societies and groups have an opportunity to aquire the building which was basically left good condition by the previous owners as photographic evident shows.
  • It has been stated that the cost of demolition exceeds the cost of refurbishment for community use.  How much is this?
  • Is there another motive in getting rid of the building that we don't know about?

We are aware that there some determined people behind the scenes who will keep plugging away until the answers are found.   As someone as already said: 'It is far from over yet!'

We were sad to hear that a workman was instantly killed when he fell from the roof of the building during its contruction.   Maybe here is another story - who was he - how old was he - did he have a family?    Remember, there were no local papers, radio or television in those days!
