Meet the Project Facilitators

by Casagrandeblog - 19:20 on 07 March 2013

I think I should introduce the two Project Facilitators who are going to help us capture local memories of buildings and places in and around Cromarty. I was offered 'glamorous' photos of Lynn and Mary, but I thought I would play it safe and show you them in their working clothes - I don't want to be X-rated!

Lynn Fraser is based in Tore, and is a graduate of the University of the Highlands and Islands. She  has been working on archaeological projects for the past five years, including excavations at a prehistoric and medieval site near Fortrose. She is also a member of the team led by Simon Gunn, studying the caves at Rosemarkie.

Some of you will recall the Black Isle Memories Project three years ago, when a team from ARCH (Archaeology for Communities in the Highlands) captured  local memories from the other end of the Black Isle. Lynn was a member of that team, and brings that very relevant experience to our Project here in Cromarty.

Lynn's colleague is Mary Peteranna. Lots of you will have seen Mary around town. She lives with her partner and her wee boy Charlie in the restored Salmon Bothy on the Links. If you have noticed a tall, very athletic-looking blonde jogging (no, running) along the shore road to Jemimaville, that was Mary. Her archaeology degree comes from Boston University, and she has been working in the Highlands for a good few years. She directed a large excavation of a prehistoric burial site in Armadale, Isle of Skye, and is also one of Simon Gunn's team at Rosemarkie.

Together, Lynn and Mary are RoCAS (Ross and Cromarty Archaeology Services). As well as contract excavations, community projects and desk-based research, they give talks to local schools and heritage groups. We are so pleased to be working with them.
