Endurance Ride

This ride is new for 2014, having Bicton Arena for the venue then the ride going out over Woodbury Common, all land owned and managed by Clinton Estates.

Bicton Arena is easily accessed from J30 of the M5, and is a purpose built equestrian venue. There are permanent toilets, hot showers, well drained ample parking, over 100 stables, vet treatment boxes and old turf fields on well drained sandy loam on which there is a permanent cross country course reguarly used by British Eventing. There will be a caterer in attendance with food and drinks for sale.

The course starts on the cross country course (no jumping), following the field boundaries before making its way to the common with minimal road work. On Woodbury common you will encounter a variety of good surfaces and green lanes on the undulating course, stunning views of an area designated as a region of outsanding natural beauty, heathland, woods, before making your way back to the cross country course to follow the fields back to the finish.

Who Can Enter?

This is an Endurance GB (EGB) affiliated endurance ride, but there are classes also open to anyone (children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult riding the same distance). All the pleasure ride (PR) classes are open to everyone, or you may want to try the novice 30 or 40km graded ride (GER) under the 'try before you buy' scheme from EGB (see www.endurancegb.co.uk/html/tbybscheme.html for details). Members can enter any ride appropriate to their qualification.

For those wanting more of a challenge two of the GER classes will have a performance formula competition, with rosettes to third place and prizes for the winners and runners-up kindly donated by our sponsors. In the 32km classes, all grades can enter with another person in the pairs class. Again there will be rosettes to third place and prizes for first and second places from our sponsors. The formula for the pairs competition will be kept secret until the day of the ride!
