Michael John Clay, known as “Mike” was born on 23 July 1929.

Mike was born on 23 July 1929 in Penlyn, the eldest son of Johnnie Clay and Mary née Homfray.  Educated at Winchester College, he did his National Service as 2nd Lt in the Welch Regt., 1948-1950. He was married on 4 February 1956 to Anne (Mary Amelia) Gillespie, and they had two children:-

Annabel (Charlotte Mary)             was born on 16 November 1958

(Alexander Charles Douglas) "Beetle"            was born on 23 September 1964, see page 53.

Mike became a Chartered Accountant in 1957. 

 

Mike and Anne later divorced, and he married secondly, Catherine (Vivian Lindsay) Picton-Turbervill (nee Corkery), on 30th. March, 1972.

 

Mike was appointed President of the South Wales & Monmouthshire Society of Chartered Accountants for 1983/84; He was appointed High Sheriff of South Glamorgan for 1991/92, and a Deputy Lieutenant in 1997.

 

 

 

 

 

Catherine (Vivian Lindsay) Picton-Turbervill (née Corkery)

Catherine was Michael’s second wife, and he her second husband.

Catherine was born in London on 19th. December, 1929, the second. child of Lt.Col:E D Corkery of the Devon Regiment & Dorothy Lindsay (nee Forde).

Catherine was educated at Crofton Grange, near Puckeridge.

In ??? she was married at ??? to Richard Picton-Turbervill of Ewenny Priory, Bridgend. they had three sons.

In ??? Catherine and Richard were divorced.

In 1983, Catherine was elected as Conservative Councillor for Cowbridge to the Vale of Glamorgan Borough Council. After ten years service, she had to retire due to ill-health in 1993, having been Chairman of the Vale of Glamorgan Conservative Association in 1992. However, three years after retiring, in 1996, Catherine was re-elected to the Council (now the Vale of Glamorgan Council [ & effectively the County council]).

 

Anne (Mary Amelia) Gillespie

Anne was the elder daughter of Lt Col Harry MacLellan Gillespie KOSB and Molly nee Patchett, of Bryn Nannerch, Mold.
