"The Grand Old Man of Monmouthshire"

This refers to the second Henry Clay of Piercefield, who had inherited the property upon his father's death in 1874, and who died aged 97 in 1921, whereupon Piercefiald was stripped and abandoned by the new owner, his son (Henry) Hastings Clay.
