Paths Steering Group Develop Interpretation Plan

The Paths Steering Group are working on an interpretation plan for the proposed path network.  The idea is to tell the story of 'Camuscross: The Making of a Crofting Township' using local stories, memories and song about the history of the township as remembered by local people from as far back as memories go to the present day.

The group is keen to use audio tracks which people walking the Committee Road could stop and listen to at 'listening posts'.  There would also be three interpretative panels, at the start of each end of the main walk, and in the middle, and some directional signposts.  There would also be a leaflet, and the group hopes to organise a guided walk from time to time.

An extra spur of path up onto the top of Creag Dhonnchaidh would take the theme of 'emigration' and boats and it is hoped there would be a bench at the top, where there is a wonderful view of Isle Ornsay harbour, from which left at least 2 emigrant ships, and which would have been full of fishing boats during the herring boom.  At a listening post, you would listen to a local song which talks about sailing from Isle Ornsay, towards Baravaig.

This is an ambitious plan and will take a lot of development, and, most importantly, a lot of funding to achieve it.

The group is keen to hear opinions, so let us know what you think of this idea.  And let them know if you have any good memories, stories or songs about life in the village, either now, or in the past.
