Fergus Walker, who last year launched his rebuilt Orkney skiff at the Camuscross Boat Day, (see http://www.sgoth.blogspot.com/ for story) left Camuscross on Thursday 26th June to travel to Dublin to join the international crew of the Havhingsten which sets sail on Sunday 29th June to sail 1400 miles to Roskilde in Denmark, arriving on 9th August.

With 61 crew on board the 100 foot long, 14 foot wide boat, there is less than 1 square metre per person, including their baggage! All belongings for the trip had to be packed into an 80lt bag. However, Fergus was given a special extra baggage allowance. He was told that he had to bring not only his pipes but also his kilt outfit - but he did not have to sacrifice socks or jumpers, as the pipes and kilt will be carried on the safety support ship.
Anyone with internet access can follow the journey of the ship as it travels from Dublin to Denmark over the next 6 weeks. Go to www.havhingsten.dk and look for the Navigation box on the left, then click on "Show position on map". To see profiles of all the crew members, click on "Meet the Crew" on the right of the web page. Fergus is in the Aftership section of the boat.
