Crofters Olympics a Success
Saturday's Crofters' Olympics organised by Camuscross & Duisdale Initiative was another successful event despite the showery conditions.
Various tents were set up in the field including a food tent, beer tent and a display tent.
There were stalls and pony rides.
The day began with a tractor parade from Isleornsay Pier up to the field.
Events included Tattie and Spoon Race, Sack Race (Sheep Feed and 1 Tonne classes), Egg Relay Race, Beat-the-Goalie, Face Painting, Sprint(with a pail of milk) and other crofting challenges.
Main Results
The Men's Hill Race was won by James MacInnes from Ardvasar. He was presented with the MacKenzie 40 Trophy by Donald MacKenzie.
The Women's Hill Race was won by James' wife, Fiona MacInnes, who received the Duisdale Hotel Quaich.
The Welly Throwing was won by Jamie Mitchell from Ardvasar who received the Golden Welly Trophy.
The junior Tug-of-War contest for the Duisdale Shield was won by Camuscross.
The female Tug-of-War contest for the Camuscross Cup was won by Camuscross.
Winning Team ; Aileen Logan, Mairi MacKay, Mary Logan, Sharon Campbell, Shona Hunter, Gwen Culbertson, Morag MacFadyen, Claire Hannah.
The male Tug-of-War contest, for the Woodward Cup, was also won by Camuscross for the second year in succession.
Ardvasar were runners-up and Tarskavaig were third.
Winning Team ; Calum MacDonald, David Campbell, John MacDonald, Charles Culbertson, James Robertson, Iain Hamilton, Neil MacKenzie and Norman MacKinnon.
Evening Dance
A ceilidh dance was held in Duisdale Hall with music by the Camuscross Crofters Ceilidh Collective and other local musicians. A raffle and auction was held halfway through the night.
All in all a fine way to bring the community together, young and old.
