Sunday 24th to Saturday 30th July

On Sunday, Glengowan were our hosts in the semi-final of the Airdrie League Knock-out Fours competition and the game went ahead in wet and uncomfortable conditions. Two of the three games were closely contested with one of them drawing their match and the other eventually getting home with a comfortable win. The third rink were on top form and their result was never in doubt. The final will be played within the next 2-3 weeks at Caldercraig when Springwells will be our opponents.

The Senior's Monday League was played at Calderbank this afternoon. Calderbank could only muster 1 rink, and they were beaten 15 - 13 in a very close encounter in the game that was played. Full points to Caldercraig. This result, added to the results of the other three games played, puts us at the top of the table with only two games to go. We are 1 point ahead of Airdrie and 4 ahead of Glengowan. We still have both of them to play whilst their other games are both against Clarkston.

26th July - Members should note that this week's Wednesday evening Rink Night Game has been cancelled and the Fair Shield games that should have been played tonight (Tuesday) will be played instead. All rinks will be utilised so there will be none available for the playing of club competition ties.

On Wednesday, John Campbell represented the Senior Section in the MSBL Senior Singles at Clarkston where he had a tough battle against the Springwells champion but did himself proud by winning a very long game by the minimum margin, a 21-20 victory.

We have received an update to the Senior's League table which shows that Glengowan shared the points with Central on Monday and this puts them in closer contention than first thought. We now lead Airdrie by 1 point with Glengowan only 1pt further back.

The Fair Shield tournament came to a conclusion on Friday night. The 4 winners and 4 runners-up  from the sections played off in a drawn knock-out competition before the semi finals and final. In the last game, which was very closely contested, Derek Phillips (last year's winner) beat Ross Busby. Gents President Bobby Wallace , very ably assisted by many of the members and their wives put on a delicious supper for all the contestants and spectators. Thanks are extended to everyone who took part or who helped to retain this competition as the best competition in the domestic calendar.
