Pixar started as the animation department of LucasFilm, and aquired it's independance and name when Apple's Steve Jobs bought it in 1986. For many years they made awarding winning shorts and dozens of commercials. In 1991 they signed a deal with Disney to make up to 3 digitally animated films for Disney to promote, the first of which, Toy Story, was released in 1995. Following the sucess of Toy Story the deal was reagreed to include 5 further films plus the Toy Story sequel Toy Story 2, and was later extended to include Ratatouille, 8 movies in all. In 2006 Disney bought Pixar outright, and since then a further 10 movies have been made, with more in production.
