Snaith LSA.

Snaith, or more accurately West Bank in Carlton, had a Land Settlement Association (LSA) dating back to 1936. During the industrial depression of the 1930s over 1000 unemployed miners and shipbuilders were given the opportunity to join 20 different LSAs across England - one of them was in Snaith and it still survives today in the guise of Snaith (Yorkshire) Salads.

Bill Martin lives in Sidlesham in West Sussex where there was another LSA. Bill has created a heritage trail, a website and a film as well as staging several exhibitions. More recently an LSA house has been dismantled and is in storage at the Weald and Downland Living Museum awaiting funding to be re-built - then the LSA Story, including Snaith, will have a permanent home.

An article appeared in The Times newspaper in June 1939 detailing a visit by the then Duke of Kent to the Snaith LSA - copy attached.
