End of an Era!
30 May 2016

On Monday 30th May, members met at Rockies in Anstruther to enjoy a meal together and hear the valedictory address from outgoing President John O'Neill. After the meal and over coffee, John recalled the highlights of his year in office.

John recalled the June Assembly, a visit to club member David Barnett's catering tent at the Pittenweem Arts Festival in August, the October meeting of all Rotarians - and took particular delight in recalling an inspirational presentation by Elizabeth Gyles.
John remembered the longest meeting was the one on "Visioning" - looking at the way ahead for the Club. A very memorable meeting was the Christmas meeting when
the honoured guest was Honorary Member Allan Govan. This was a special occasion for Allan, who was gifted a bottle of malt on the night. The speaker was Revd. Peter Neilson with the traditional Christmas message.

The January Burns Supper was a big success, then in February members were treated to a superb presentation by Olivia Gyles on her work creating artificial limbs for African children.
Other very interesting visits were to Rory Dowling the guitar maker in the Balcormo Estate and to Brian Swankie in Anstruther to see how he restored Lotus cars as well as making custom furniture and kitchens.

The year was rounded off by an excellent presentation by PC Laird on credit card fraud and how to avoid getting caught out at a hole in the wall machine.
John's speech was met with wide applause at the end of a very successful 'reign' as President of Anstruther Rotary Club. John will be succeeded by Andrew Lindsay who will take over at the start of July.

Fundraising remains an important part of Rotary, and John congratulated everyone for the success of the, now traditional, Christmas card delivery service - that brought in over £3,000 in funds for good causes. Again the Fife Coastal Path walk was a big success and we are waiting to hear in the next few weeks if we have beaten last year's total of over £11,500.00.
