Gerard the Poet

Gerard started to write poetry while still at school.  In 1925 he published some of his poems "for private circulation".  These, and some others that have come to light, are presented below, with dates where known.  To read one, just click on the title, and when finished, kill that Tab to come back here.

Gerard's wife Violet also penned a poem about Gerard's work:-

THE BUDDING POET

When Gerard writes his poetry
He gets so very bored with me
And spends not only hours but days
In counting beats to fit a phrase.
I  wonder if it  really pays?

He's hardly any time to raise
His eyes  to seek for someone's praise,
And I muot drink my lonely tea
             When Gerard writes .

I  wonder if it's born in Clays
To  have such funny little ways,
And work as any busy bee.
I  really  feal he's nevor free.
So now it  almost me dismays
             When Gerard writes.

                                      Violet Clay,
                                         1920.
