Henry Arthur Clay, was born on 23 April 1913 in Grangewood, Ashby de la Zouch, the younger son (of two sons and two daughters) of Arthur Joseph Clay and Bridget née Parker-Jervis. 

He was educated at Radley College - for which he was a member of the 1932 Shooting Eight - and at Birmingham University. 

He was married aged 24, on 12 June 1937 in King's Norton to (Daphne Sybil) Pauline Atkinson, aged 22.

They had a son:-

Jeremy Arden                          was born on 30 June 1938

Arthur was a farmer.  He died on 21 April 1971 in Warwick at the age of 57.

(Daphne Sybil) Pauline Atkinson.

Pauline was born on 14 February 1915 in King's Norton, the daughter of George Atkinson of King's Norton.
