Michael (Henry) Clay was born on 13 August 1922 in Barnstaple, the only son of Wilfrid Clay and Maud née Pryce-Jenkins.  He was educated at Shrewsbury, and was married on 20 September 1952 in St Mary's, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, to Pam(ela) née Hill.  They had two sons :-

Richard    was born on 19 July 1953

Robert     was born on 1 September 1954

Pam(ela) née Hill.

Pam was born on 11 September 1927 in Cardiff,
