At our 2012 Fun Day it was extremely encouraging to see that the entry increased substantially compared with recent years with over 80 people and 30 dogs, some of whom were making a round trip of 280 miles from Aberdeenshire to attend. The Judge was Valerie Woolley of the famous Welshwood Cocker Spaniels who has only just returned to Scotland after spending 15 years in the Nottinghamshire area. When she accepted the Judging appointment she said she wanted a break from unpacking boxes but that might have been easier than judging as the standard in all classes was extremely high. Keeping everybody in order was our steward, Tom Johnston.
Here comes the sausage..........

The class that had the largest entry was the famous Sausage Catching class which was won by Billy Johnman with Mabel. The class which attracted the most applause and laughter was the Fancy Dress class and this year there could only have been one theme – ‘Olympic Winners’. The first three places were rewarded with a Basset Hound Medal which the Judge placed over the heads of the handlers. First was Shona Miller with Tia and Stella dressed as Team GB Dressage, second Linda McCash with Boots as a Wrestler and third was Louise McNamara with Rebus dressed as Usain Bolt. All the others are to be congratulated on their original and innovative fancy dress costumes.

As usual it was good to see some new puppy owners as well as some people interested in obtaining a puppy in the future.
The opportunity was also taken to promote the submission of blood samples in conjunction with The Animal Health Trust at Newmarket and over 20 kits were distributed to those that were interested. This is all to help with the health of the Basset Hound in the future.
Thanks must go to the hard working helpers in the kitchen, Sandra Johnston for selling so many raffle tickets and Gerry Moore for taking the pictures on the day.
