An album of old school photographs from the Russell School spans several years and we are making excellent progress naming as many pupils in those photograhs as possible. Did you attend Russell School? Can you help us with names?
Were you married at St Leonard's Church? I so, your wedding is an important part of local history! Our "Weddings" album exclusively includes photographs of weddings which took place at Wollaton's St Leonard's Church from the 1920s to 2012. Don't be shy, let us have a digital image of your wedding in the church with as many details as possible. Not only is this project creating a valuable historical record but is of great interest to anyone with a passion for fashion. How things change! From a smart tailored suit for the bride of the 1940's to yards of flowing satin and lace of the 1970's to present day elegance.
Wollaton Families Research
A group of members of Wollaton Historical & Conservation Society is undertaking a genealogy study of old Wollaton families. Starting initially with extensive analysis and comparison of census records, a list of surnames has been compiled and is split between each member of the team for further research. In forthcoming issues of the local Link magazine, editorial space permitting, the “A B C of old Wollaton Families” will reveal some interesting stories. Information gathered to date can be seen in folders available at the Dovecote.
Steph Johnstone, has completed research work on Bramcote Lane and St Leonard’s Cemeteries, photographing all the stones and compiling as much information as could be found about the people themselves.
Julia King has recently completed extensive research into the various landlords at the Admiral Rodney Public House.
