Wollaton Historical & Conservation Society

Unlocking the past, securing the future

Welcome to Wollaton Historical

Mission Statement

The Wollaton Historical & Conservation Society exists to protect and enhance the principal conservation areas, which include the old village and Wollaton Park. To do this the Society encourages historic research and seeks to encourage people living in all parts of Wollaton to learn more about the history of the area and thereby to help ensure its survival and conservation.

About Us

In 1972 the Wollaton Village Preservation Society was formed in the face of a threatened redevelopment of our historic village square, which happily was averted. Researching local history has become an important part of the Society's work and so in 2011 we changed our name to reflect this. Now we are known as the Wollaton Historical & Conservation Society (sometimes abbreviated to WHaCS).

Over the years the Society has many achievements to celebrate. Notable highlights are the restoration of the 16th century dovecote and more recently the initiation of the project to restore the 18th century Walled Garden in Wollaton Park.

The Society holds a number of talks on local history during winter months. In the summer, in addition to opening the Wollaton Village Dovecote Museum, the Society provides a number of guided walks around Wollaton and occasional visits to places of historic interest.

A full history of Wollaton is not provided on this website, as there are already many great publications that cover this elsewhere. We have highlighted some booklets worth exploring under Publications and other books are obtainable through selected websites on our Links page.

A brief introduction to Wollaton Village can be found on our Village page.

Information on Wollaton Dovecote and the Wollaton Village Dovecote Museum can be found on our Dovecote page.
