Those of you who have just received notice of the price increase for Adobe’s Photography subscription package - Lightroom CC plus Photoshop CC, now £120/yr - might like to consider alternatives.
Lightroom C6 is sill available as a single licence standalone version. Affinity Photo by Serif Labs looks a viable alternative to Photoshop CC for under £50 for a perpetual licence. The software uses many of Photoshops shortcuts and plugins. A trial version is available if you’re tempted.
If you are up for a steep learning curve you could give GIMP a try. GIMP is a free open-source editor that has become very powerful over the last ten years. Eric uses it to great effect
Basil.
PS (added by Eric) Once you have got used to it, GIMP is great, especially since I have discovered that NIK software- especially Silver Efex Pro- can be embedded. I have no experience at all of Lightroom or Photoshop, only the very basic Corel Photohouse, so naturally GIMP was a bit daunting at first. If anyone would be interested in learning more, collar me at a meeting.
