Lincolnshire Clocks and Cases

The economic wealth of Lincolnshire can be seen through attempts to record time and the history of clock makers. This session will look at a general history of time keeping in Lincolnshire and at some of its most interesting clock makers. Time should be available to examine any clocks, or photographs of such, that class members can bring in, that might be of interest to the group.
The event will be held at the ConocoPhillips Room Louth Library, Northgate, Louth, LN11 0LY on Wednesday 8th July 2020, from 7.30 pm
The Fee is £8 and includes refreshments.

George Orwell – by his son, Richard Blair
Richard Blair, the son of George Orwell, one of the most celebrated authors of the last century, is to be interviewed by Richard Lance Keeble. With 2020 marking the 70th anniversary of the death of Orwell, aged just 46, Richard Blair, who was adopted in 1944, will talk about the extraordinary life of his father, author of Animal Farm (1945) and Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949). Richard Keeble is Professor of Journalism at the University of Lincoln, the author of four books on Orwell and chair of the Orwell Society. Questions and comments from the audience will be encouraged.

The Art of L.N.E.R Posters
A fully illustrated talk and discussion will explore the visual advertising strategy of the L.N.E.R. In the 1920s and 30s and the way they brought commercial art to prominence. Posters featuring seaside resorts, historical towns and the wide open spaces of moorland were used to encourage passengers use their services. Their now iconic visual style with bold bright areas of colour are as inviting now as they were in their original heyday, join us to discover more about these visual gems.

Monet: More Than Haystacks and Waterlillies
A fully illustrated talk and discussion will explore some of the less familiar aspects of Monet’s work such as his pencil and pastel sketches and place them within the wider context of his work and his role as a key member of the Impressionist group of artists. Fully illustrated with discussion.
