Upper Tay Transport is developing an Active Travel project in the area and we are looking for volunteers to help with various projects.

Gentle Walking and Cycling groups – intended for people who are quite inactive and want to build their physical or mental health.

Health in Motion – this is an active travel presscription project where people will be asked if they would like to join a walking or cycling group by their health professional. They will then be contacted by the coordinator who will support them to join the appropriate group.

We plan to start groups in early May.

Volunteers needed.

Walk Leaders – this is in conjunction with Live Active Leisure.  We need individuals who are keen to help lead walks in Aberfeldy or Kenmore.  Training would be provided by Live Active Leisure (2 hours) and they will support you as a Walk Leader.  Walks are under 1 hour long and are at a slow pace and short distance.  There are 2 groups at present but we wish to develop more.  No skills are required for this role other than enthusiasm and an interst in people.

Cycle Ride Leaders – We need individuals who are keen to help lead cycle rides leaving from Aberfeldy.  Training would be provided by Cycling Scotland (1 day in Aberefldy to be held in mid April) and Upper Tay Transport and Cycling Scotland will support you as a Cycle Ride Leader.  Participants would be offered a one to one session before they start within a group to build confidence.  Manual or electric bikes can be borrowed for participants.  We are proposing 2 groups – one building up to cycling 5 – 8 miles and the other going a bit further.  Pace will be slow with lots of stops.  An interest and knowledge of cycling is important for this role but no formal skills or qualifications necessary.

Buddy’s – We are offering participants in the Active Travel prescription project, the opportunity to have a buddy to accompany them to the first session or every session.  This person will come along to groups with them.  No formal training is provided for this but Dementia training could be arranged.

If you are interested in any of these roles please email Emma on emma@uppertaytransport.org or phone 07881 991176.

We will then provide you with more information. We will require you to have a Disclosure check.

Upper Tay Transport is encouraging and enabling more people to cycle, more often and for short journeys. We are offering FREE cycle training and bike maintenance classes, electric bike loan scheme, and information.
