ABERFELDY HOSPITAL CARS
We are delighted that we are in the proccess of merging with this scheme and will be fully opperational by March 2021
Aberfeldy Hospital Car Drivers Scheme covers the Aberfeldy Surgery area. It exists to run patients who are unable to find transport for themselves to and from their homes and the various medical centres. This can be to and from the local surgery, or to and from PRI, Ninewells or even Glasgow or Edinburgh.
The service is an essential lifeline as without it a proportion of patients would not be able to keep appointments, or be forced into long journeys by public transport.
Volunteer drivers are paid an agreed sum by NHS Tayside to reimburse them for fuel and running costs. This is based on NHS expense rates. It is currently 40p per mile. Patients pay the drivers directly for the journey.
Patients who can afford it, pay from their own pocket. Patients on a Benefit can claim the money back from NHS Tayside.
If you need to use the service, phone Upper Tay Transport on 07388 236233 give them the date, time and location of your appointment.
Aberfeldy Hospital Cars will arrange a driver and will contact you to tell you the driver’s name. The driver will phone you to arrange a pick up time. If you are claiming back the cost of the journey you will need to have a copy of your Benefit Allowance letter to hand.
The car scheme offers a safe, reliable, friendly and affordable, door to door, voluntary car service to residents of Killin and the surrounding area, who find it difficult to use public transport to access NHS and other services which support and maintain their wellbeing. The areas we specifically cover are those that coincide with the Killin Medical Practice of Killin (as far as the village of Lawers) from Tyndrum and Crianlarich (including a small area in Glen Falloch), to Lochearnhead and Balquidder and Strathyre.
Anyone wanting to use the scheme can contact us on the number below and will be charged 20p a mile, for journeys. Passengers only pay for the journey from their own home to their destination.
All our drivers have been PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) checked, received training in Dementia Awareness and Health and Safety. They are about to undergo Passenger Awareness Training (Community Transport Association), which will help identify passengers needs and how they can be supported.
We have 14 drivers and 2 escorts and passengers are welcome to take along a friend or family member as an escort. We have two co-coordinators who can be contacted on the number below, who will find a driver and inform you of the cost of your journey.
We will be inviting those who use the scheme or are interested in supporting us to become members to help us show that there is community support for the car scheme
