Chairman's January Letter

January 2021

Dear Member

As HM Queen Elizabeth once said in a Christmas address to the nation I will start my address to all of you by saying, what an “Annus Horribilis” 2020 was for the bowling fraternity. We must all pray and hope that we can start bowling again this coming spring. Our treasurer, Keith Hamilton, thinks he has won the lottery as the club has been the recipient of some very welcome grants. These grants have allowed us to carry out the work to the green and around the green that was outlined in my November letter. As well, we have bought some new machinery which will help in keeping the green in tip top condition (if it ever stops raining). An unexpected gift from the Gods is that our joint car park has been tarmacked and all the car parking spaces white lined. In addition, they have been identified as TBC and Flat 1 to Flat 7.

Your committee has decided that for 2021 the annual membership fee will be waived due to our good fortune with the grants. The match fees will remain the same. Any new members can join subject to being approved by the committee for a fee of £10.

Our registration secretary, Eileen Adamson, has asked will all members indicate on the Team Registration Form which team they want to play for in 2021 and return it to her via post or email (adamsonkg@aol.com). Hopefully and with fingers crossed all of the leagues that we enter teams for will still be running. In the event of any league folding and subject to there being enough willing players we will endeavour to enter teams in leagues that have survived. Should we find that there are not enough leagues to play in then your committee will consider running internal leagues and competitions.

Let us all hope that by April of 2021 the Covid pandemic will have eased and we can look forward to bowling again even if it is just Turton Bowling Club competitions.

On behalf of the Committee, I would like to send you our best wishes for good health and wellbeing in the coming months. We will keep you informed of any news re the way forward for the club and sincerely hope that you will continue to belong and enjoy your bowling in 2021.We look forward to seeing you.

Regards

Jim Sheffield
