My day - by The Wedding Fairy

I was five and a half months pregnant.  Rom (my hubby) was in France snowboarding.  There were avalanches.  All of this added up to my having a panic about my baby being an orphan, and my ringing him and saying (to his delight I might add!) "when you get back we're getting married!"  Six weeks (yes, you heard right) later we had a fantastic day.

We really didn't have a lot of money, and our parents were not in a position to give us much towards it either, so it was down to a lot of ingenuity and the generosity of friends that we had a fantastic wedding day.  Our friends still say, 15 years later, that it was one of the best weddings they have been too.  Here's how we did it...

Bridal trousseau (doesn't that sound posh?):  I bought an antique gold long dress from Wallis (£18 in the sale).  I had a long pleated coat made to go over it (£20 materials, £47 fee).  I bought my headdress in a sale in Berketex Bride for £15.  My shoes were cream satin from a bargain bin in a local shoe shop for £2. Total:  £102.

Bridesmaid:  My sister didn't want a dress (she doesn't really like them) so bought herself a cream trouser suit.  I must say I  had been married before so didn't want all the bridesmaid thing:  (For my first wedding I had seven bridesmaids, and went to an evening class to learn to sew and with a friend made their dresses myself - 7 bridesmaids' dresses for £105.)

Groom, bestman and ushers:  All wore their own suits
