General Archive collected
08 February 2009

At the end of January  Pauline Rowe  collected the general archive from Elspeth Chowdharay-Best, Juliet's youngest daughter. Pauline & Elspeth met up at Carlton Curlieu Hall near Market Harborough, where the remaining Rhys-Williams family papers have been kept in a barn for some decades.  Although the papers are damaged most are still legible and Pauline has, as an interim measure, placed the papers in dry, cool storage to review and digitise, if appropriate.  She has already started placing some sections of the papers in new boxes prior to sorting.

This will be the beginning of a long process.  Having already discussed the work of the project with advisers at the Heritage lottery fund it is clear that funds would not be forthcoming from this source to create a brand new archive.

The immediate task in hand is to secure some small amount of grant funding for storage purposes.  Any current work is being carried out on a voluntary basis.
