The rules of the road detract from (correct) conduct based on context and commonsense. The system is based on guesswork rather than science. It defies basic safety principles by turning roads into battlegrounds for gaps and green time. It ignores civilised values of equal rights and responsibilities. It neglects our greatest resource: the human brain, with its instinct for co-operation and highly-evolved ability to negotiate movement. It feeds an unproductive control and enforcement industry. Economically, socially, environmentally, psychologically, aesthetically - does the traffic control system confer any benefits at all? More at www.fitroads.org and http://amberlight.ning.com
