Welcome to The Edinburgh German Circle website!

The Edinburgh German Circle was founded in 1932 with the aim of bringing together those who are interested in German language, culture and history, and to provide them with an opportunity for German conversation.

Our membership represents a wide range of competence in the German language - from relative beginners to university graduates, and a significant number of native speakers - but all have an interest in the life, language and culture of Germany and other German-speaking countries.

Meetings are generally of a fairly informal nature, with members often rounding the evening off with a drink at the bar.  Everyone attending has the chance to hear good German spoken by visiting speakers and those who wish can speak German with other members.

Our meetings are held on Tuesday evenings, generally two per month, from October to March, in the Royal Over-Seas League, 100 Princes Street, Edinburgh.

Members are offered a varied programme of talks, mostly in German, on a variety of topics covering different aspects of German social and intellectual life, and including musical evenings, talks and films.
Additional cinema evenings, lunches and day-trips etc. are organised in addition to the full programme of meetings.

Full subscription covers attendance to all of the programme in an October to March period.
Annual subscription is £12.
A reduced subscription of £5 is available for students and native German speakers temporarily resident in Edinburgh.

Alternatively, if you have not been along before and would prefer to attend as a visitor initially, visitors are welcome at a charge of £2 per meeting.
