Welcome to The Convent Ladies Choir
Our choir was founded in September 2012 with only 1 rule and 1 ethos....you have to be a woman and have a desire to unleash the shower diva in you!
Our choir is currently about 50 members strong and attracts all sorts of ladies of all ages and abilities from the local and surrounding area. Many of our choir hadn't sung since childhood...or ever for that matter when we started in September, while others are accomplished music readers and singers.
It is a very supportive environment with music readers and non music readers all helping each other. All members of the choir have the chance to take small solo parts and are indeed encouraged to give it a go.
What type of Music?
Our Musical Director is Charlotte Roberts and the aim of the choir is to cover many different genres from classical to rock, madrigals to gospels and modern to jazz.
We have 2 concerts a year - A Christmas Concert and a June concert. At our last Christmas Concert we covered a number of gospel songs from the films Sister Act and Sister Act 2 along with some traditional and not so traditional Christmas music. This summer we will be tackling a little Karl Jenkins, Rutter, a number of beautiful modern writings along with some jazz standards such as Feeling Good and Son of a Preacher Man.
Can I join?
Yes, of course. We rehearse on a Monday night from 7:45 - 9:45. We start our next session on Monday 3rd February 2013. Come and join us or contact us via this site or our facebook page.
