Early reports this morning from our staff reporter on the scene, Simon Green, are that disaster struck.  Gerry suffered a broken valve and neither men had a functional pump.    

They are on their weary way now, however, and have just telephoned with 50 miles to go.  Gerry reports that Steve is sitting with a cup of coffee in front of him and his head in his hands.

In the absence of any other photos today please see this one, hot off the press - obviously a fellow traveller being tapped up for a donation - or could they be lost again . . . . .

(UPDATE - Gerry advises this is Alan of Helmsdale who is WALKING from Lands End to John O'Groats - now in his 70th day of the walk.)
