NAW Inquiry into allotment use
09 March 2010

INQUIRY INTO ALLOTMENT USE

The National Assembly for Wales’ Sustainability Committee has begun an inquiry into allotment provision in Wales, and is calling for evidence to be submitted from people who have knowledge of this area.

The cross-party group of Assembly Members is interested in ways the Welsh Assembly Government can support the interest in allotment and community gardening, and to examine the wider benefits that these activities can bring. The committee will consider the following as part of its inquiry

·         The demand and availability of allotment sites - both public and private
·         The barriers and constraints facing users and providers
·         What innovative approaches are being taken for the provision of land for allotments
·         Evidence of wider benefits that allotment gardening can bring to allotment holders, such as health, environmental and community
·         The need for intervention from the Welsh Assembly Government

Please submit any written evidence by April 1 2010, to Meriel Singleton at sustainability.comm@wales.gsi.uk or write to: Sustainability Committee, National Assembly for Wales, Cardiff Bay, Cardiff, CF99 1NA
