A Wonderful and Unexpected Gift

The Congregation of St Maelrubha's Church was the recipient of the gift of a new bell.

The original church bell was somehow damaged and a crack appeared rendering the bell unuseable. The cost of a new bell was beyond the means of the congregation so worship was not announced on Sundays by the ringing of its damaged bell.

Regular visitors from Sunderland became aware of this situation and searched for a redundant bell in their Diocese. They found one which was generously gifted to St. Maelrubha's by the former Vicar and PCC of a now defunct church.

The bell arrived in Poolewe and was rededicated to St. Maelrubha's Church by Bishop Mark Strange on 17 April 2010, during the Installation Ceremony of our new Rector, Rev Tim Daplyn.
