I decided to make this site to chart the progress of my Cyphotilapia gibberosa fry. They are very slow growing African cichlids. I fell in love with these fish whilst visiting a friends house for the first time. I am by no means an expert fish keeper, but I do have fifteen years experience of keeping South and Central American cichlids to draw on.

Cyphotilapia frontosa/gibberosa.

These fish are endemic to Lake Tanganyika, one of the great rift lakes of East Africa. There are a few different types, some are under the banner of C.frontosa, and some are under another banner of C.gibberosa. It can be very confusing to a beginner like myself, but I have got this info from www.cyphos.com which helps explain the types and collection points.

The following list was compiled to help hobbyists better understand the different Cyphotilapia species, variants and collection points. The list was assembled to show that Cyphos from certain collection points could/should be grouped together as a variant or type do to similarities. This does not mean that fish from different collection points within a geographical variant are identical. Cyphos from different collection points should be kept in separate aquariums to avoid interbreeding.
 

Note: Cyphotilapia Frontosa & Cyphotilapia Gibberosa are currently the only recognized scientific classifications.
