ET the Extra-Terrestrial (the remake)
Warning - contains spoilers
After an alien becomes stranded in Port Talbot, on the planet Earth, the being is discovered and befriended by the loco Labour Party. Sheltering the Extra-Terrestrial in their impoverished, working class community, the alien is adopted as a future Parliamentary candidate and becomes an MP, where he works miracles (Editor's note: have you checked this out?). But the polluted atmosphere and staple diet of chips and beer make the alien crave for his former life of clean Swiss mountain air, emmental and fine kirsch, and with severe homesickness as well, this can only be cured by spending time with his own species. The people of the town decide to put the Extra-Terrestrial out of his misery and bid the alien farewell in a process called deselection. He never returns.
