Egos on Twitter

I read certain Twitter accounts even though I'm not on it myself. And the other day I happened to spot how many people were officially following Oily Smith. So to lighten things for this weekend I thought I'd have a closer look at how many followers some of the people we know have got. Here they are:

David Lewis is he who used to write in now and again accusing us of being cranks, morons and idiots. He did have a different Twitter handle but is now @davidlewis451. With only 17 followers (yes - that's SEVENTEEN) if anyone reading this uses Twitter, do please sign up to follow him to offer the old fellow some encouragement. Don't expect too much in return mind. That's because he joined in September 2011 and has tweeted 6 times (that's SIX). By my reckoning that's once every year on average which means look out for some life-changing, inspirational stuff, well - next September 2017.

And how about Jeremy Miles, our new Neath AM. Who, you ask? As well you might. A virtual non-entity at 2,290. Correction. A non-entity at 2,290.

And just look at Peter Hain, the man NEVER out of the papers, ever ready for any interview. 16.5k followers. After all those years of working on that public image and tan.

Leanne Wood at 33.8k has over TWICE the followers of Hain. But even Rachel Reeves has 59.6k.

What of Owen Smith, who runs two accounts, one focusing on his leadership bid. That one has just 16.7k, his other one 43k so a combined 59.7k. However, as most following the leadership one probably follow the other he is likely on just 45k or so. Pathetic. Because Corbyn has 630k, some 585k more than his odious little challenger.

However, all politicians are small fry when compared to people like world class athletes on Twitter. Jessica Ennis-Hill has an astounding 1.59m followers, but Usain Bolt has 4.45m. Maybe Oily and Hain should have pursued sports careers to have really had their egos massaged. I could easily picture the Orange Baron on top of a diving board in a set of Speedos, doing his best to look the part. Tanned like the best of 'em, immaculately manicured, with hair done by Hers and Sirs. Except I just can't see him making a clean entry into the water, with him being so used to wanting to make a big splash wherever he went. So no medals for him then. Oily, well what event would he be in? I think he could only be a cox in the rowing. A short-arsed loudmouth barking out orders to others, shouting out we can't get anywhere without more power. Oh, and no women to upset in the boat either. Just all sweaty, well-muscled, chauvinistic lads together. Yes - he'd love that, so definitely a coxswain. But definitely not in the winning boat.
