The UKIP candidate in the Rhondda has rightly received some flak for spelling and other errors on his election leaflet. Amongst a number of shocking errors, Rhondda was misspelt "Rhonnda".

A Welsh Labour spokesman is quoted as saying, “An example of a political leaflet riddled to such an extent with basic spelling and grammatical errors is rather special". I totally agree.

There's a lot of it about, these days. Bad spelling that is. Check this one out, tweeted by Welsh Labour Press on 2 April 2015.

That old saying about people in glass houses springs to mind.

But who would have thought it is possible to misspell the name of the constituency you are standing in. It's hard to believe. I mean that could never have happened before, could it, misspelling Rhondda in that way?

Oh, hang on! What's this? It looks like an official council document about flood risk within Rhondda Cynon Taff. Or is it "Rhonnda Cynon Taff"? I'm getting confused myself now.

I put it down to the closure of grammar schools and the incessant messing about with the national curriculum ever since. Doubtless though, anyone voting Labour will probably say it's the fault of the milksnatcher Maggie Thatcher, who is of course responsible for the fact that a lamb was born with five legs just up the road from me, toads no longer appear in my garden, I've got drug dealers living opposite me, and my first wife ran off with the milkman.
