About me

I have been teaching English since 1984.   My main qualifications include the Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults (DTEFLA) and an MA in Applied Linguistics from the Centre for Applied Language Studies (CALS), University of Reading.   In addition, I have an MA in Education (Open University), a Postgraduate Certificate in Online and Distance Education (Open University)  and an Advanced Professional Diploma in Research Awards Supervision.(Leeds Met)  

I have worked with students from most countries and nationalities, and I am an experienced examiner for Cambridge ESOL speaking Exams, so I am well used to assessing spoken English and can provide detailed feedback on your speaking skills.  

How it Works

• Choose whether you would like lessons using Skype or Elluminate. 
• You tell me what you would like to practise and how you would like to improve your speaking.   E-mail me and I will send you a short Needs Analysis Questionnaire.
• You complete the questionnaire and e-mail it back to me.
• I plan your lesson(s), based on what you have asked for.
• We decide on the best time and date for your lesson(s).  Uee the right 'Buy Now' opion below to make the payment using a secure PayPal service and ... we are ready to go! 
• During and after the lesson, you will get detailed feedback and advice to help your spoken English improve. 

Skype

If you are a Skype user, we can have English speaking lessons using Skype.  My username is Jamesatopen.   The price is £18 per lesson, or £80 for 5 lessons.   Each lesson is 1 hour.  Use the Buy Now button below to choose these.  To discuss this in more details, either contact me through Skype or e-mail me. 

Elluminate

If you prefer, we can have lessons in my Elluminate V-room, which is a virtual classroom, and has a whiteboard and the ability to view PowerPoint and share files.  The price is £20 per lesson or £90 for 5 lessons.
