History

Seaside Cottage started life as a very small stone built single storey croft house built literally at the edge of the sea.   The site of the house appears to have been built up from the natural bedrock on the seashore to prevent flooding at spring tides, and, although over the years sea level has receeded slightly in Scotland, at spring tides the sea still laps against the sea wall to the garden.

Around 60 years ago the house was bought from McDonald estates together with the area of land between the house and the main road to provide a new access road, the original access being a track following the shore from the old pier road (the track is still available as a footpath, but take care as the ground is uneven).   It is believed that the first floor was added at around this time, providing two first floor bedrooms and a small two storey extension was added at the rear forming a ground floor kitchen and a first floor bathroom.

Over time the property suffered badly from damp, woodworm and decay, but it has now been fully restored with a totally new roof, insulated walls and double glazed windows.   A new kitchen and lounge have been added and a new staircase formed in the old kitchen area.   The living areas now all have slate floors with underfloor heating and all bedrooms are en-suite with all modern conveniences.
