in the water, learn to swim and develop their skills'
 SWIMMING FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES Swimming offers many benefits and is very popular with people who have disabilities. As well as being an excellent way to exercise, swimming offers fun, freedom and a challenge, which is so often denied to those who are unable to move freely. CLUB MEMBERS Seahorse SC currently has over 80 members, which includes swimmers and volunteers. The Club caters for people of all ages with a wide variety of disabilities. The swimming ability of our members is mixed and most achieve a great deal in the water, whether it’s swimming one width of the pool, 50 lengths of the pool or competing in the Halliwick Galas. The volunteers have a variety of roles. Some give one-to-one help to swimmers in the water and others assist on the poolside. SOCIAL AND FUNDRAISING EVENTS AT SEAHORSE SC Members enjoy days out and take part in events to celebrate special occasions, such as Christmas and the Club’s anniversaries. Notable events such as the Olympic and Paralympics Games, the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the Community Games (inspired by the Olympics) are also commemorated. Monthly discos are also held and members are encouraged to participate in fundraising activities to raise Club funds and to support other good causes.
HALLIWICK AST Seahorse SC is affiliated to the Halliwick Association of Swimming Therapy, which was developed in 1949 at the Halliwick School in London. The Halliwick method of teaching swimming is based on hydrostatics, hydrodynamics and body mechanics. This involves controlling one's natural balance, having breath control, using basic strokes, understanding the effect of water on the body and knowing how to respond while at the same time having fun in the water. The affiliation to Halliwick AST brings many benefits including: receiving newsletters and information on new developments and activities, priority application on training courses and workshops (at reduced fees), advice from people with expertise in various specialised fields relating to swimming for people with disabilities, competing in local, regional and national galas and obtaining insurance at competitive rates.
