My name is Charlene Reid, I have worked at Saltersgate for 5 years this year. I started here as a learning assistant, the Early years practitoner and now recently employed as the schools Home School Practitioner which is a PEF funded role.
Here are some of areas in which my role as Home School practitioner can support families with a variety of aspects, including:
- Changes in behaviour at home and school, including supporting referrals to Community Learning Disability Nurses, CAMHS and other professionals.
- Completing Child Disability Payment, Bus Pass application and other forms
- Health and Wellbeing concerns at school including learning and development and school attendance/lateness
- Family members feeling overwhelmed, low mood, stressed, anxious
- Unemployment, Housing, Universal Credits, Debt concerns, Best Start Grant – Pregnancy and Baby Payment, Early Learning Payment, School Age Payment
- Family disagreements
- Parental separation
- Family changes i.e. children having to stay with another carer or a new partner living in the home
- Bereavement, coping with family illness or disability
- Young Carers Support
- Family substance misuse or addiction

What is Public Equity Funding (PEF)?
Pupil Equity Funding (PEF) is additional funding allocated directly to schools and targeted at closing the poverty-related attainment gap. The Scottish Government has committed to this funding as part of the Scottish Attainment Challenge (SAC) programme from 2017/18 up until 2025/26.
