Sunderland aim to keep out of contract Jack Colback

Sunderland aren't giving up on keeping off contract midfielder Jack Colback.

According to The Sunday Mirror Sunderland are set to relaunch efforts to keep Jack Colback away from Newcastle United’s clutches.

Newcastle are keen on Colback, 24, but Sunderland’s recent revival has prompted a rethink.

However, with Sunderland’s Premier League safety now all but guaranteed following Saturday’s 1-0 victory at Manchester United, they will try to reopen discussions with the likes of Colback and Phil Bardsley.

Manager Gus Poyet said: ‘We had conversations with Phil and Jack which did not work out the way anyone had hoped so we decided to put an end to those talks.

‘The idea now is to leave it until we know for sure where we will be next season and then maybe we will talk again.

‘It is a few more days to wait to know the outcome of the season, so it does not really matter - it is not months.

‘It is better for them and it is better for us.’
