Borini hopes for Brazil

Sunderland loan striker Fabio Borini is hoping his goal at Wembley has alerted Italy boss Cesare Prandelli to his abilities.

The Liverpool striker, on loan at the Stadium of Light until the end of the season, said last week that he hoped to put in a display in the Capital One Cup final that would make Prandelli take notice.

He could hardly have wished for a better first 45 minutes after he picked the ball up on the right of the area and fired the Black Cats into a half-time lead, and he is hoping his strike was one that got noticed despite Sunderland going on to lose to Manchester City.

Borini made his senior international debut in a friendly against the USA two years ago and was then included in Italy's Euro 2012 squad, but did not add to his solitary cap so he is hoping he will get the nod for the trip to Brazil in the summer.

"It (the cup final goal] was a good goal and again against a big team and on a big occasion," said Borini, "I hope that's a message to someone big."
