Poyet looks to cup win

@Sunderlandafc11

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet believes the Black Cats fans would rather win a trophy than survive their relegation battle.

The Wearsiders are in the bottom three in the Premier League after the defeat at Arsenal on Saturday and things will not get any better for the next three weeks as they are not in league action again until mid-March because of cup games.

Ahead of their date at Wembley on Sunday with Manchester City in the Capital One Cup final, Poyet says he has learnt that winning a trophy might be more important to the fans than staying in the top flight. "It (Premier League survival) is (more important), but don't tell the people in Sunderland," Poyet said.

"I thought it was just down to the manager to stay in the Premier League - apparently it is more important for a manager to win a cup in Sunderland because it makes you more famous, so I am learning."
