Poyet is unconcerned over Jozy Altidore's lack of goals

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet is unconcerned over Jozy Altidore's lack of goals.

Sunderland's £6.5m summer signing from

Dutch side AZ Alkmaar has yet to score a Premier League goal for the Black Cats.

“Jozy played a big part in the first goal, it was a good strong downward header, he was in the right place,” said head coach Poyet after their Capital One Cup win over Southampton.

“To be honest, I was expecting Jozy to score in there, because it would be great for him to get a goal.

“But it was a great header and the goalkeeper made a great save, but luckily for us Phil (Bardsley) followed the ball and put it in.

“The second goal, which was key to the game, another striker might have thought about himself and had a shot but Jozy thought about the team and set up Seb Larsson, so he deserves credit for that.

“Not many people would do that in the same situation.

“I know plenty – and I have played with plenty – of strikers who, in that situation, would have a shot.

“They don't care about anything but themselves.

“So I am very pleased for him and we need to be really happy about what he has done for us.”
